We sometimes get requests for a player ranking system linked to things like a global leaderboard or automatic online match-making.

The short answer to that is that it's not something we plan on adding to Ultimate Chicken Horse.

One reason is that there isn't one way to play Ultimate Chicken Horse right - as you can see from the fact that you can customize game rules, point settings, block probabilities, modifiers, etc. In practical terms, this means that we don't have a good way to compare the "value" of winning a game in all of these different conditions. Theoretically we could limit ranking to the Default rules, but we feel like that would discourage players from exploring the many options they have to define their own fun with the game. Ultimately, that doesn't feel to us like it's in the spirit of the game.

Another reason is that our online lobby system is not designed for automatic match searching and joining. To have a system of match-making based on player rank, we would need to rework the way players get connected to online lobbies, and that's not an easy thing to do so late in the game's life cycle.
