In order to unlock levels, characters, and outfits in Ultimate Chicken Horse, you must play matches with another player, online or locally, and collect mystery boxes during these matches. You cannot get unlocks playing by yourself (unless you use the cheat code).
Note that a "match" is a completed Party or Creative game, which has been played until there was a Winner or a Draw. You can see your total number of matches and what levels you have played in by looking in the Stats menu.
When an unlock is available in a level, you will hear the sound of a bell and a level will have a "?" symbol on it. When you play a match on this level, there will be a mystery box that you can collect to get an unlockable.
Note when playing online: Collecting a mystery box can reward ANYONE in the current online game with an unlock. Just because you collected the box, it does not mean you will get the reward.
The game makes the following checks, in this order, to determine if it should spawn a box with a new unlock for you:
Levels
- At least 1 match in each previous level, excluding the Blank Level (where custom levels are built)
- At least 3 matches since the last level unlock
Characters
- The level where the character appears is unlocked
- At least 5 matches since the last character unlock
Outfits
- At least 3 matches total
- Chance of unlock spawning is 1/3
- Only unlocked characters can have their outfits unlocked.
